RAISING AND ESTABLISHING EDUCATION FUND

The proposal of setting up an education fund was first raised and accepted in 1976 when Tan Sri Lee Yan Lian was the Chamber’s President. In 1982-83, when Wong Tok Chai became the President of the Chamber, he set a target to raise 1 million dollars for the education fund to provide financial aid to university students regardless of race.

KLSCCCI began to provide financial aid to secondary school students from 1983, to assist financially disadvantaged ones in Klang Valley.
KLSCCCI established a scholarship fund to provide financial aid and loan to university and college students starting from 1983 and 1995 respectively. The objective of the fund is to assist financially deprived students, regardless of race and religion, to complete their higher education.

MALAYSIAN CHINESE LITERATURE FESTIVAL AND AWARD

Towards the end of the 1980s, the Chamber continued to promote Chinese cultural activities with new ways, including sponsoring “First National Inter-university Chinese Debate Competition” and “First Malaysian Chinese Literature Festival”, setting up “Malaysian Chinese Literature Award” etc.

On 9 May 1989, Head of Culture and Education Committee Ng Teck Fong announced that the Chamber together with five other civil groups would jointly organize the First Malaysian Chinese Literature Festival.

The “First Malaysian Chinese Literature Festival Working Committee”, chaired by Ng Teck Fong, organized a seminar titled “The Development of Malaysian Chinese Literature” in 1989.
The Chamber set up its own “Malaysian Chinese Literature Award” in 1989.

KLSCCCI President Ngan Ching Wen presented an award to Wei Yun, the winner of the 2nd MaHua Literature Award.
In 2016, KLSCCCI organized its 14th Malaysian Chinese Literature Award and a talk titled“One Belt and One Road Literature”, inviting China famous writer and former Culture Minister Wang Meng to be speaker. Sarawakian writer Liang Fang was awarded the 14th“Malaysian Chinese Literature Award”.
